We are very happy to announce that the First Bonaire Caves & Karst Tour Guide Course was successfully accomplished and we now count with 13 CARIBSS-certified cave tour guides on Bonaire. The course took place in the facilities of Caribbean Club Bonaire, Bonaire Chamber of Commerce, and the recently established Bonaire Caves & Karst Park, between the 7th and 21st of June of 2019. It consisted of indoor and outdoor classes covering a variety of topics, including the geology of the caves and karst system of Bonaire, basic notions about their associated flora, fauna and ecology, tour guiding, cave safety, and a closing forum in which all the relevant topics concerning management of the new cave park were discussed. Besides providing training to the participants on protocols to safely guide tourists in the caves and sinkholes of Bonaire, we reached a major achievement with the creation of the Bonaire Caves and Karst Tour Guide Group, which under the umbrella of our society will contribute to establish and implement a management strategy for the park. All the participants of the course that were not members of CARIBSS became members and also affiliated their companies to the society.
